    The BLS reported this morning:
    The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers increased 3.1 percent over the last 12 months to an index level of 246.196. For the month, the index increased 0.2 percent prior to seasonal adjustment. CPI-W is the index that is used to calculate the Cost-Of-Living Adjustments. The calculation dates have changed over time , but the current calculation uses the average CPI-W for the three months in Q3 and compares to the average for the highest previous average of Q3 months.     WASHINGTON - Long-term U.S. mortgage rates edged higher this week, marking their first increase since early June.
    Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages ticked up to 4.53 percent from 4.52 percent a week earlier.
    Despite the decline in recent weeks, long-term loan rates have been running at their highest levels in seven years. The average benchmark 30-year rate reached a high this year of 4.66 percent on May 24. The rate stood at 4.03 percent a year ago.
