NEW YORK - WarnerMedia said Monday it will sell the iconic CNN Center in downtown Atlanta, but that it doesn't mean the network will abandon the city.
The network will consolidate its Atlanta workforce in a series of offices across town, the same office campus where CNN was first located upon its founding by Ted Turner in the early 1980s.
“Downtown Atlanta has seen great investment and is quickly becoming an entertainment destination,” Pascal Desroches, chief financial officer at WarnerMedia, said in a memo to staff. “The CNN Center is of great value to a third party that specializes in...

When states issued stay-at-home orders in March, jobs that involved face-to-face interacting with the public were among the first to go: Think bars, hotels, and theme parks.
The number of U.S. leisure and hospitality jobs is down 41% year over year in May, from 16.5 million in May 2019 to 9.8 million now. It is hands down America's hardest-hit industry during the pandemic. But that economic blow is far from even when you delve into state-level data.

Video-streaming service Twitch on Monday became the latest social platform to crack down on posts by President Trump and his campaign. The only difference? The suspension of Trump's Twitch account will change relatively little.
The service, which is popular among video gamers, said that it had temporarily banned Trump's account on Monday for posting hateful comments and had also removed the “offending content.”
“Like anyone else, politicians on Twitch...

16 days ago - By Chron

NEW YORK - Kim Kardashian West is selling a stake in her beauty brand for $200 million, in a deal that values the TV reality star's three-year-old business at $1 billion.
The buyer is Covergirl owner Coty Inc., which will get a 20% stake in KKW Beauty. Coty seems to be enamored with the Kardashians: Last year, it bought a 51% stake in the makeup line started by Kardashian West's younger sister, Kylie Jenner.
“Kim is a true modern day global icon,” said Coty CEO Peter Harf, which is similar to what he said about Jenner in November.
Kardashian West, who stars on the long-running reality TV...

Biotech giant Gilead announced a price for its COVID-19 treatment remdesivir on Monday: $390 per vial for most governments, but $520 per vial for private insurers in the U.S., and a lower figure for developing nations.
That amounts to $2,340 for a five-day treatment course in high-income nations. But those topline figures may not explain how much of the tab you'd actually have to pay. As with so many aspects of the U.S. medical system, the devil is in the...

With the federal government seemingly reluctant to issue blanket policies on dealing the coronavirus pandemic, it comes down to the states to implement their own guidelines for reopening the economy .
That patchwork of policies is evident in the changing map of where cases are spiking. New York and New Jersey, which were both hit hard in the early stages of the pandemic and implemented some of the toughest restrictions, have seen their cases decline since...

On the eve of a budget showdown in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that he will cut $1 billion in funding for the New York Police Department in an attempt to meet the demands of protesters who have occupied and marched on City Hall over the last week.
Specifics of his plan, however, are hard to come by, and police reform activists are concerned that the mayor will work with the city council to hide parts of the police budget in mandates...
