• April Housing Starts Tumble

    April home-building was in the red, with housing starts tumbling 3.7 percent to 1.34 million-but, single-family starts were up, 0.1 percent to 894,000, according to the Commerce Department. Multifamily starts came in at 374,000.
    Additionally, approvals for builds fell, 1.8 percent from March to 1.35 million permits; however, approvals for single-family starts were up, 0.9 percent to 859,000 permits. Approvals for multifamily starts came in at 450,000.

    Earlier: Housing Starts decreased to 1.287 Million Annual Rate in April
    The housing starts report released this morning showed starts were down 3.7% in April compared to March, and starts were up 10.5% year-over-year compared to April 2017.
    The decrease in starts was mostly due to the volatile multi-family sector.

    Multifamily housing starts with 5 or more units fell from a seasonally-adjusted 428,000 in March 2018 to 374,000 in April, a 12.6 percent drop.
