    The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.2 percent in May on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.2 percent in April, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index rose 2.8 percent before seasonal adjustment.
    The indexes for gasoline and shelter were the largest factors in the seasonally adjusted increase in the all items index, as they were in April.     U.S. inflation rose at the fastest rate in more than six years, diminishing consumer wage gains and continuing an upward trend since the beginning of 2018.
    The consumer price index rose 0.2% in May after also rising 0.2% in April, according to a report published on Tuesday by the Department of Labor. Throughout the past year, the nation's CPI rose 2.8% prior to seasonal adjustment, the largest yearly gain since February 2012.

    WASHINGTON - U.S. consumer prices rose 0.2 percent in May, with surging gasoline costs driving much of the increase.
    The Labor Department said Thursday that the consumer price index climbed 2.8 percent last month from a year earlier, putting inflation on its fastest annual pace since February 2012. But core prices - which exclude the volatile food and energy categories - have risen a milder 2.2 percent over the past 12 months.
