• Asian shares mostly higher ahead of US midterms vote

    BANGKOK - Share prices were mostly higher Tuesday in Asia as investors awaited the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections.
    KEEPING SCORE: Japan's Nikkei 225 index jumped 1.1 percent to 22,147.75 and the Kospi in South Korea added 0.6 percent to 2,089.62. The Shanghai Composite index slipped 0.2 percent to 2,660.33 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng bounced back, gaining 0.7 percent to 26,109.35. Australia's S&P ASX 200 advanced 1.0 percent to 5,875.20. Shares fell in Taiwan but rose in Jakarta and Thailand. Markets were closed in Singapore for a public holiday.
